Industry Planner

The industry planner category honors Canada’s top event and meeting professional who demonstrates a true passion for their craft and the industry. This person consistently discovers creative ways to improve how day-to-day business is conducted and enhances the overall quality and foundation of the industry, while building a personal legacy.

Nominate a planner who is:

  • Consistently exceeding expectations on ROI with projects and events for their clients or employer.

  • Always “thinking outside the box” to find unique solutions and new growth opportunities.

  • Creating and implementing best practices that support the industry.

  • Building a positive personal legacy within the industry.


Nominees are judged on four elements:

  1. Proven return on investment (ROI) from examples on recent projects and events (25 points)

  2. Ability to find and employ unique solutions and growth opportunities (25 points)

  3. Demonstrating a recent scenario and how effective problem-solving supported the result (25 points)

  4. Examples of best practices that the nominee has created and implemented to support the industry (25 points)

Industry Supplier

The industry supplier category honors Canada’s top supplier, who demonstrates a true passion for the industry as well as for their craft. This individual continuously finds creative ways to improve how their specific industry role conducts its day-to-day business with planners, enhances the overall quality and foundation of the industry, and is building a legacy.

Nominate a supplier who is:

  • Consistently exceeding expectations on ROI of services, products or programs for their clients/companies.

  • Always “thinking outside the box” to find unique solutions, while elevating the collaboration process with planners.

  • Creating and implementing best practices that support both the specific field of service/product and the entire event industry.

  • Building a positive personal legacy within the industry.


Nominees are judged on four elements:

  1. Proven return on investment (ROI) from examples on recent projects with clients (25 points)

  2. Ability to find and employ unique solutions and elevate the collaboration process with clients (25 points)

  3. Demonstrating a recent scenario and how effective problem-solving supported the successful result (25 points)

  4. Examples of best practises that the nominee has created and implemented to support their field of service/product and the entire industry (25 points)

The Big Idea

The Big Idea category honors an individual planner or supplier who has come up with and helped to implement an idea that has improved the productivity, profitability, culture and/or operational systems of a specific company/business and has helped in modernizing our industry in the process.

Nominate someone who has:

  • Created and implemented a “big idea” that has changed the way a company does business.

– and/or –

  • Created and implemented a “big idea” that has helped in modernizing how the industry will perform a task/or business function in general.


Nominees are judged exclusively (100 points) on the innovation and impact of their “big idea.” Impact must be beyond an individual’s own business and demonstrate how it has helped or can be used to help in modernizing the industry.

Industry Mentor

Nominate someone who you have seen:

  • Reach out to and help industry newcomers on an ongoing basis throughout their career.

  • Offered inspiration and support to others in the industry through difficult times such as the pandemic.

  • Find opportunities to use their industry knowledge and transferable skills to support an individual in a different industry.

The Industry Mentor category honors an individual planner or supplier who through expertise, professional influence or academic position has provided others in the industry, and beyond with the opportunity, inspiration or ability to pursue and achieve excellence.


Nominees are judged on their answers to four specific questions:

  1. What mentoring means to them, and why it is important to both the industry and personal growth (10 points)

  2. Examples of scenarios and the methods employed to connect with and support others in times of uncertainty such as the pandemic (10 points)

  3. How they have mentored specific individuals, particularly individuals who are not in their employ to make a lasting impact. Specific examples must be given. (55 points)

  4. How they have used transferable skills and industry expertise to mentor, inspire and leave a lasting impact on individuals outside the industry. Specific examples must be given. (25 points)

Industry Volunteer

The Industry Volunteer category honors an individual planner or supplier who has dedicated time and expertise in the promotion of industry associations, groups, professional industry chapters or charity work.

Nominate someone who is:

  • Actively involved in the industry and/or works closely with charities.


Nominees are judged on the depth and breadth of their volunteer activities, as well as their ability to articulate about the volunteer process and experience and how it has transcended the events and meetings industry. The points breakdown is:

  1. Volunteer activities within the industry. Primary association (25 points); Secondary associations (20 points).

  2. Volunteer activities and charity work outside the industry (25 points)

  3. Reasoning on why volunteerism is so important to the nominee (15 points)

  4. How is the nominee adapting to volunteering in changing times (15 points)

Industry Career Achievement Award

The Industry Career Achievement Award is bestowed in a year where CMEE and the Hall of Fame committee have unanimously decided there is a deserving recipient. The recipient of this honor is selected by industry peers on our awards committee and celebrates an individual that has had a career as a planner or supplier in the events and meetings industry, having built a legacy with the work and volunteerism they have contributed to the industry throughout their career.
