CALGARY — WestJet Airlines Ltd. has named Barbara Munroe executive vice-president, corporate services and general counsel, it was announced Nov. 1.
“I am delighted to add someone of Barb’s calibre to WestJet’s executive team,” said Gregg Saretsky, WestJet president and CEO. “She is a strong and engaging leader with more than 25 years of legal experience. Since joining WestJet in 2011, Barb has consistently demonstrated a trusted ability to balance the interests of our people, our guests and our business.”
As executive vice-president, corporate services and general counsel, Munroe is responsible for the airline’s legal and compliance function as well as multiple corporate functions, including corporate real estate, regulatory, government relations and fuel and environment.
“I look forward to the exciting challenges ahead, particularly in the areas of legal compliance, transportation policy and environmental enhancements,” said Munroe. “Our industry is never without interesting challenges and the WestJetters who work on our corporate services teams are well equipped to tackle them.”
Munroe joined WestJet in November 2011 as vice-president, general counsel and was promoted to senior vice-president, corporate services and general counsel in June 2015. Previously, she was assistant general counsel at Imperial Oil Ltd. and senior vice-president, legal/IP and general counsel and corporate secretary for Smart Technologies Inc.
She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Calgary Bar Association, and the Association of Corporate Counsel and is a director of Crescent Point Energy Corp.
