WestJet launched its new transatlantic service between Toronto and Dublin this week.
The inaugural flight took off from Toronto at 5:15 p.m. on June 15th, made a brief stop in St. John’s, Newfoundland and landed in Dublin at 7:00 a.m. local time on June 16th.
“This represents a very significant strategic step in the growth of WestJet. As we’ve expanded our reach, grown our fleet and added new products to broaden our appeal to different travel segments, it’s always been a dream of many WestJetters to one day be able to fly our guests to Europe. Today, the dream comes true,” said Gregg Saretsky, WestJet president and CEO.
The new route was announced in November 2013. Scheduled to run from June 15 to October 5, 2014, WestJet’s introductory fares started at $199 including taxes, fees, and surcharges on all flights in both directions. Due to overwhelming demand, the service was recently extended to October 25, 2014.
