VANCOUVER — The Westin Bayshore, Vancouver has been awarded a wildlife-friendly habitat certification by the Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF), it was announced last month.
The CWF’s Backyard Habitat Certification Program recognizes the concerted efforts the hotel takes to meet the habitat needs of wildlife. The hotel has been recognized after meeting specific criteria set out by CWF and established best practices are met. The actions taken by the hotel and results have helped local and migratory wildlife, including species at risk in the area.
“We are thrilled to be recognized by the Canadian Wildlife Federation as a wildlife-friendly habitat,” said Marion Harper Treskin, general manager of The Westin Bayshore. “Our landscaping has been created with wildlife in mind to provide beauty and tranquility for the hotel grounds. The gardens allow our guests to see natural local vegetation on the property, which adds to the overall experience of visiting Vancouver.”
The trees, flowers and water features at the hotel welcome wildlife and plant a positive environmental message. The hotel team embraces the growing conservation ethic into the property’s business practices. A variety of animals, including sea otters, squirrels and hummingbirds, are often seen on the hotel property.
“CWF is pleased to recognize the leadership and dedication of everyone involved in the development of The Westin Bayshore garden,” said Rick Bates, CEO of the Canadian Wildlife Federation. “The trees, flowers and water features welcome wildlife and plant a positive environmental message. This helps promote a conservation ethic and encourages others to consider the benefits of gardening with wildlife in mind.”
