The Jefferson, Washington, DC, has appointed its first Canine Executive Officer (CEO). Lord Monticello, known as “Monti” to his friends, is a lovable beagle, adopted from PAW Rescue.
Like Smudge, the canine ambassador at The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald in Edmonton, Monti is on hand to meet, greet and generally keep an eye on things in the hotel’s historic lobby.
Monti, who began life on a farm in West Virginia, was abandoned when the property was sold. He was found wandering the streets of Ocean City, Maryland and a good Samaritan brought him to PAW Rescue, an adoption organization based in Maryland.
When The Jefferson was searching for more ways to bring parts of the community into the hotel, it decided that rescuing a dog to become its goodwill ambassador was the correct choice. Monti now makes his home in the office of the hotel’s managing director Philip A. Wood.
The Jefferson is a pet-friendly hotel. Dogs and cats are welcome.
