The Sutton Place Hotels is opening a 262-room luxury hotel in Halifax’s Nova Centre, the new mixed-use commercial centre that is also home to the Halifax Convention Centre.
“Nova Centre is a state-of-the-art development and we are thrilled to bring the Sutton Place brand to Halifax,” said Tom Gaglardi, chairman and CEO of The Sutton Place Hotels. “My family opened its first hotel in 1967, so it makes perfect sense to partner with another well-established family like the Ramias [Nova Centre’s developers] to bring Sutton Place’s ‘Tradition of Luxury’ to the East Coast.”
“We are very excited to introduce such a prominent business family as the Gaglardis to Nova Scotia and The Sutton Place Hotel as the new luxury hotel in Nova Centre,” said Joe Ramia, president and CEO of Argyle Developments, the developer of the Nova Centre. “There is a great synergy between our two families because we share similar values and a deep background in family business. I’m proud that the Gaglardi family is choosing to invest in Nova Scotia.”
“The Sutton Place Hotels have built a strong reputation for exceptional hospitality and service excellence – they are a perfect fit for our convention centre and our clients,” said Carrie Cussons, president and CEO of the Halifax Convention Centre. “We’re thrilled to welcome them to Halifax and connect our guests with such a highly regarded international brand.”
The announcement that The Sutton Place Hotels would be opening a property at the Nova Centre was made today at an invitation-only event held at the Halifax Convention Centre. However, news of the announcement broke yesterday in an exclusive report published in The Chronicle-Herald, Halifax’s daily newspaper.
The hotel, which will be the first Sutton Place property in Atlantic Canada, will also have an on-site contemporary restaurant and lounge, as well as underground property. Finishing work on the property will begin immediately, with a grand opening scheduled in Spring 2019.
Based in Vancouver, The Sutton Place Hotels has properties in Vancouver, Edmonton and Revelstoke Mountain Resort.
