GRAND ANSE BEACH, Grenada — Spice Island Beach Resort in Grenada has earned a AAA Five Diamond Award, only granted to six other Caribbean resorts and 118 hotels worldwide, it was announced this month.
“I am overjoyed and heartened by this accomplishment,” said Sir Royston Hopkins, chairman and managing director of Spice Island Beach Resort. “I continued to be encouraged by the hard work and dedication of the Spice Family, which has brought us to this significant milestone, of which we are extremely proud.”
The accolade elevates the resort from Four Diamond status, which it had maintained for more than 15 years. Situated on Grande Anse Beach, 10 minutes from the airport, spice Island Beach Resort features 64 suites, including beachfront suites equipped with 225-square-foot patio with private garden and double hammock. In addition, 1,200-square-foot Anthurium Pool Suites offer 12 foot x 16 foot plunge pools and private terrace with a double daybed. The resort’s 1,500-saure-foot Luxury Almond Pool suites offer 16 foot x 20 foot residential-sized swimming pool as well as a private entrance, tropical garden and dining terrace. Royal Collection Pool Suites feature a 16 foot x 20 foot pool and every amenity in the Luxury Almond Pool Suites plus living room, marble bathroom and private Cedar Sauna on the patio. Cinnamon and Saffron Suites measure 1,440 square feet and feature a floating canopy bed, living room with wet bar and dining area for six, and private patios with double hammock.
All suites are air conditioned and outfitted with flat-panel televisions, iPod docking stations, Italian Frette bathrobes and linens, Molton Brown bath and body amenities, mini-bar, Internet access, safe, coffee/tea facility, toaster, chaise lounges and patio or balcony.
Rounding out the amenities are a full-service spa; fitness centre and Omnicourt tennis court; Oliver’s beachside gourmet restaurant; Sea & Surf Terrace, for light lunches; Sea & Surf Bar; central swimming pool with swim-up whirlpool; and a children’s activity centre.
According to AAA, nearly 28,000 hotels are reviewed by AAA inspectors who used published guidelines to evaluate and rate properties for the AAA Five Diamond Award.
