San Diego has a new fleet of event spaces under renovation or just opened, reports the San Diego Tourism Authority.
In June, the 417-room Hyatt Regency La Jolla wrapped up a $12 million guestroom revamp. The construction was the last phase of a reno that included the conversion of some second floor guestrooms into breakout spaces and the redesign of the terrace space, which added 10,000 square feet to bring the space’s total square footage to 42,000.
The next month, the Hilton San Diego/Del Mar completed a $15 million dollar renovation of its lobby, business center, fitness center, restaurant, meetings spaces and guest rooms. Upgrades ranged from new flooring and furnishings to the addition state-of-the-art equipment for events being held in the property’s 6,000-square-foot ballroom. In addition, an indoor/outdoor area with a fireplace and two outdoor fire pits was added to the on-site restaurant, coastalKitchen.
In the same time frame, the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa opened a new event space. Planners can now book the resort’s actual Pier for events. Jutting out onto San Diego Bay, it offers views of the San Diego skyline. The space can be used for breakfast, lunch and dinner for groups up to 100 as well as for receptions before chartered boat excursions.
Next month, the Marriott Marquis San Diego & Marina is breaking ground on a new $107 million dollar ballroom expansion project. It will add two 36,000-square-foot rooms with views of the city’s skyline and a 25,000-square-foot outdoor terrace overlooking the bay. The project is scheduled to be complete by June 2016.
