The DoubleTree by Hilton™ Hotel and Conference Centre Regina has won the Regina and District Chamber of Commerce’s Paragon Award for Environmental Excellence.
The award recognizes organizations that are environmentally responsible and have demonstrated a commitment in environmental workplace enhancements (e.g. Green procurement), waste management, air quality improvements, reduction in water consumption and improved energy efficiency.
“We have ambitious goals to be an industry leader in sustainability,” says Mike Wurster, general manager, DoubleTree by Hilton™ Hotel and Conference Centre Regina. “This award is recognition of the entire staff and hotel’s dedication to ensuring we create an amazing guest experience while doing so in an environmentally-sustainable way.”
The hotel was praised for its environmental initiatives, including:
- Go Green Room program, which incentivizes guests to forego housekeeping services in an effort to save on overall cleaning chemicals, water, energy and laundry expenses)
- partnership with Bullfrog Energy, Canada’s leading green energy provider
- installation of charging stations for Tesla and 11 other electric cars
- replacing bottled water with filtered water in its meeting rooms, SilverBirch Conference Centre and hotel restaurant

Opened in 2013, The DoubleTree by Hilton has a corporate goal of reducing energy consumption by 20 percent by 2020. Its efforts include the introduction of Hilton’s Lightstay program, which ensures there are a minimum of two actionable sustainability projects occurring at all times.
