The Société du Palais des congrès de Montréal confirms that it booked six international conventions, three national conventions and several major tradeshows in the quarter ending December 31, 2015. These events represent a combined increase of 23 per cent in event bookings over the same period last year.
The conventions were secured with the collaboration of Tourisme Montréal. The quarter also saw the Montréal International Auto show sign a new four-year extension with the Palais.
Collectively the events will have a significant economic impact on the city. Compared to the same period last year, they are expected to:
♦ attract almost 30,500 business tourists to the city (+51 per cent)
♦ represent nearly 51,000 room nights in hotels across the city
♦ book 65 per cent more space on average (conventions)
♦ book 97 per cent more space on average (tradeshows)
♦ result in economic benefits estimated at nearly $53 million ($21 million+)
“The increase in the average amount of space being booked for future conventions and tradeshows reflects the hard work being focused on attracting large-scale events to the Palais, and also speaks to the industry’s interest in Montréal and the Palais,” said Raymond Larivée, president and CEO of the convention centre. “It is an outcome made possible by the cooperation that exists between the Palais des congrès de Montréal, Tourisme Montréal, the Hotel Association of Greater Montréal and other tourism and convention industry partners.”
