Ottawa is set to host more than 2,000 delegates during the 64th ISI World Statistics Congress from July 16-20, 2023.
The biennial congress is the leading event on Statistics & Data Science in the world. In 2023, it will take place at the Shaw Centre in the heart of Ottawa, and will make use of the Westin, Les Suites, Lord Elgin, Novotel, Sheraton, and the University of Ottawa for accommodation.
In a message to members, ISI President Stephen Penneck said: “In past years, the International Statistical Institute (ISI) has brought together thousands of delegates from more than 120 countries. After our successful Virtual Congress in 2021, we look forward to meeting friends and colleagues from around the world in-person. We will have a rich scientific programme that includes invited sessions, contributed sessions, short courses, tutorials, and time to meet friends and colleagues. We will be attracting academics, mathematical statisticians, data scientists, applied statisticians, official statisticians and statisticians from the world of business. You don’t have to be a statistician to benefit from the WSC – anyone who uses or has an interest in statistics or data science will find the sessions of value.”
Ottawa Tourism’s, Vice President, Meetings and Major Events, Lesley Mackay added: “Not only does this event represent a great piece of business for the city, it also truly demonstrates once again the power of working in partnership with clients and other organizations throughout the industry. As a team we sought as many different creative ways as possible to support the local bid team and help them bring the event to Ottawa – working with The Hague to support their need to move dates due to COVID was a pleasure and shows what we can all do when we work together.”
