The Westin Orlando Universal Boulevard has broken ground on a new state-of-the-art meeting and special event center, expanding the AAA Four Diamond hotel’s meeting space by 5,576 square feet.
The new center will increase the hotel’s capacity to accommodate corporate and association group meetings, as well as its ability to host weddings, banquets and special events for groups up to 370 for banquet settings and 330 for meetings. When it is completed, the hotel will have a total of 13,685 square feet of meeting space.
According to general manager Mike Magnelli, while the hotel has been consistently recognized for its commitment to exceptional service and its ability to execute flawless meetings, banquets and special events, it didn’t have the space to host mid-sized groups and larger special events. The new conference centre will give it that ability. “Our associates are equally as excited about the business opportunities this will bring, and we have already received great feedback from existing and potential clients,” he said.
Orange County’s mayor, Teresa Jacobs, offered the hotel her congratulations on its September 5th ground-breaking. “Particularly as Central Florida grows its reputation as a world-wide destination for leisure and business travelers, it is important that we have premier meeting and convention space for our visitors,” she added.
Orlando-headquartered architectural firm, Baker Barrios, and construction firm, T&G Construction, have been selected to build the new center, with a targeted opening date of February 2014.
