Montreal’s Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth has reopened following a year-long renovation that saw the addition of 35,000 square feet of event space.
Owned by Ivanhoé Cambridge, the transformation of the iconic Montréal property was performed by general contractor Pomerleau and Sid Lee Architecture in collaboration with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.
In addition to some 500 guestrooms being accessible, the following spaces are now open:

- new CoLab 3 business campus on the third floor, which features a large outdoor terrace overlooking René-Lèvesque Boulevard
- Suite 1742, site of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s famous bed-in for peace
- Agora, a multipurpose space in the main lobby, offering a new brand of programming (product launches, concerts, etc.)
- Rosélys, a restaurant specializing in bistronomie cuisine

- Nacarat bar, which is headed by renowned mixologist Nader Chabaane
Montreal’s New Business Hub
The transformation added 35,000 square feet of convention space to the property, bringing the total to 85,000 square feet—the second largest space of its kind in Montreal after the Palais des congrès.
The second floor is home to flexible conference and meeting rooms and features personalized digital touchscreen signage and high-speed 1 GB connectivity. The Parc Mont-Royal pre-function rooms offer an open-plan meeting space concept, with co-working zones that can be used by up to three groups at once. The Square Victoria Lounge has a capacity of 200 (cocktail reception) and is suitable for product launches, trade shows, VIP receptions and more.
CoLab 3, the business campus located on the third floor, was developed by the creative team at Sid Lee Architecture. It is comprised of 13 rooms, including zones designed for playful creativity and themed rooms. The names and designs of the rooms are inspired by the world of startups and digital keyboards. For example, the Ping Room has a ping-pong table as a meeting table and carpeting that resembles artificial turf. The Swing Room is equipped with a pair of swings.
The CoLab 3 rooms feature erasable whiteboard walls, stick-on sheets, a 180-degree multimedia display, touchscreens, video walls and more. They cover a total floor area of 14,100 square feet. The adjacent outdoor terrace is 4,300 square feet. It can be used by up to three groups at once and has a maximum capacity of 350.
More new features and spaces will debut later this year and in 2018.
