Kimpton Donovan Hotel in downtown Washington, D.C. has completed a redesign to all meeting and event spaces and added a brand new venue, the 550-square-foot Bradlee Room.
The 193-room property is located at the edge of Thomas Circle and 14th street, only five blocks from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The redesigned meeting spaces pay homage to The Washington Post’s fearless Watergate-era editorial team of Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein and Ben Bradlee. With the Woodward, Bernstein and Bradlee meeting rooms, the hotel offers more than 5,000 square feet of private indoor and outdoor function space, accommodating events of up to 100 guests.
Washington, D.C.-bsed interior design firm Monogram at BBGM designed the fourth-estate inspired spaces. The new design of the Woodward, Bernstein and Bradlee Rooms feature neutral tones of blue, gold and white, industrial chic lighting, high tech additions and playfully journalistic accents such as newsprint wallpaper and custom artwork that references the gathering and processing of information.

The newly constructed Bradlee Room, named after The Washington Post’s executive editor during the Watergate scandal, can hold up to 40 guests. The space features natural light from windows overlooking Thomas Circle; geometric blue and white carpet; a gold and glass credenza; unique newsprint wallcovering; and a feature wall with a colorful word cloud collage overtop a playful yellow backdrop. Following the media theme, the word cloud features terms that describe the many aspects of journalism and roles within newsrooms.
Bradlee is also outfitted with the latest technology. All speakers and microphones are routed through the ceiling eliminating visible wires, and a 70-inch flat panel display and VDO360 pan-tilt camera provide instant video recall and the ability to have a meeting video feed follow a speaker or call lead in real time.
The 1,325-square-foot Woodward and Bernstein Room can accommodate up to 100 people, and can be split into two 700-square-foot rooms, each of which can hold 50 people. Features of the room include: natural light; decor similar to the Bradlee Room; two custom art pieces by Kevin Barry, which separately display the iconic Jefferson and Washington monuments; and a textured wall covered in wallpaper that mimics newsprint headlines.
The property’s indoor meeting spaces are augmented by a rooftop lounge that is available for events. Meetings and events catering is provided Zentan, the hotel’s Japanese izakaya-style restaurant.
