AMSTERDAM – The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) has named Quito, Ecuador as one of the top 10 cities in South America for hosting the highest number of international meetings and conventions in 2015. The entity is recognized as the most resilient and dynamic sector of the MICE industry and serves as the global community and knowledge hub for the international association meetings industry, which has become one of the most significant organizations in attracting international events.
In 2014, Quito was ranked number 12, while in 2015, the city rose to number 10, for having hosted 30 international events of great significance. Amongst these events are Pan American Day of Medical Technology; Iberoamerican Congress of Computer Security; conventions of Sanish-speaking vascular surgeons; and Conference of the Americas on International Education.
Headquarered in the Netherlands, ICCA consides the following criteria when calculating rankings: Event duration of at least three days; rotation of the event by other destinations; a quorum of at least 50 international participants; realization of the event by profession associations.
Quito’s objective for the coming years is to continue to rise in the scale and position itself within the top levels in the ranking. It will strive to reach that goal by the joint work of all the sectors involved and strategic alliances with the public sector.
