CHICAGO – Hyatt Hotels announced this week that in an effort to reduce waste globally, it is introducing large-format bathroom amenities and reducing single-use water bottles by June 2021.
According to a press release by the hotel chain, by June 2021, Hyatt hotels around the world will:
• Swap small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and body lotion to larger bottles
• Increase the number of water stations in public spaces in the hotel so guests can refill re-useable water bottles
• Serve water in carafes for meetings and events
“At Hyatt, our purpose – we care for people so they can be their best – guides all business decisions, including our global sustainability framework, which focuses on using resources responsibly and helping address today’s most pressing environmental issues,” said Mark Hoplamazian, president and CEO, Hyatt. “Plastic pollution is a global issue, and we hope our efforts will motivate guests, customers and, indeed, ourselves to think more critically about our use of plastic.”
Hyatt also said that it has also removed plastic straws and drink picks at its hotels, as well as increasing the use of compostable, recyclable, or recycled content packaging for to-go food containers.
