REYKJAVIK, Iceland and MCLEAN, Va. — Canopy by Hilton and Icelandair Hotels announced in early July the opening of the world’s first Canopy hotel, in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Canopy has opened in Iceland.
Centrally located on Hverfisgata Street, Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik City Centre is designed as a natural extension of Hverfisgata Street, with local design influences and natural materials used throughout the hotel’s architecture and interiors.
For example, the property’s 112 guestrooms and suites reflect local geography via acolour palette that highlights shades of ocean blue and gray volcanic rock. Rooms provide a Reykjavik Music Box, which lull guests to sleep with an Icelandic lullaby.
Geiri Smart restaurant is open for dinner. Chef Jóhannes Steinn Jóhannesson and sous chef Bjarni Siguroli Jakobsson put their own spin on local ingredients such as fresh fish and organic vegetables. The hotel offers two complimentary choices for breakfast: an artisanal meal served in the lobby area or a Canopy Breakfast Bag delivered to guests’ room. Each evening, Canopy Central lobby area runs complimentary wine and beer tastings. Other food options include a delicatessen and coffee shop.
Guests can sample Iceland’s famous Omnom chocolate on site, enjoy water naturally filtered by Icelandic lava, and immerse themselves in local literature when relaxing in poets’ corner.
There’s also an onsite 24-hour fitness centre, as well as event and meeting space for up to 50 people. The hotel provides complimentary bicycles for guest use, and onsite staff can recommend local routes to explore the city and surrounding trails.
The property also offers an LP library with vinyl records that can be played at any of the 10 onsite turntables. From October through to March, guests can watch the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) from near the hotel, as well as Iceland’s famous midnight sun during the summer months.
Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik City Centre participates in Hilton HHonors, the only guest rewards program that allows members to earn Points & Miles for the same stay and redeem points for free nights with no blackout dates at more than 4,660 hotels worldwide.
