The Grand Hyatt New York in Midtown Manhattan recently debuted a multi-million dollar renovation of its Conference Level, including 12,000 square feet of meeting space and 18 breakout rooms.
“Following the last major renovation of the guestrooms and public spaces in 2011, the makeover of our conference level and meetings space was important in creating a more cohesive design and guest experience throughout the hotel.” said general manager John Schafer, Grand Hyatt New York.
Designed by New York City-based interior design and architecture firm Nemaworkshop, the new design reflects the energy of the adjacent Grand Central Terminal and the New York City skyline. The designers chose material that would reflect Grand Central’s vitality and kinetic energy, most notably silver and metallic wallcovering from Wolf Gordon and Koroseal. The silver and metallic, along with a brown and blue color palette, reflects the turn of the century style of Grand Central Terminal. The design welcomes visitors into a warm living room environment, thus giving the space a more hospitable feel that complements the existing spaces of the hotel.
The design incorporates unique elements such as a barn door for a conference room and a custom drink case that encourages meetings guests to have a less formal office experience. The walls are adorned with artwork and photographs of Grand Central Terminal, carefully curated to complement the interiors. Unlike in other projects where artwork is the last step of the design process, Nemaworkshop started with consideration of the art and chose photographs of this iconic landmark that focused on abstract elements of the terminal, both inside and out. They also added new technologies including a digital touch screen for wayfinding.
“With over 60,000 square feet of unique meeting space, our hotel is a leading New York City meetings hotel, and with this renovation, our facilities now truly match our superior service. We look forward to welcoming both past and future guests,” added Schafer.
