The British Columbia chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI), the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Canada West chapter and the Vancouver chapter of the International Live Events Association (ILEA) have joined forces to host Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.
GMID, which is being held April 6th, is a worldwide, one-day celebration of the industry. It originated in Canada as National Meetings Industry Day and was adopted by Meetings Mean Business (MMB) in 2015 and other global meetings industry organizations last year. Its purpose is to showcase the real impact that business meetings, conferences, conventions, incentive travel, trade shows and exhibitions have on people, business and communities.
“GMID helps share the meetings industry’s value story, ensuring that the media, elected officials and general public understand the benefits of face-to-face,” said Paul Van Deventer, CEO and president at Meeting Professionals International and co-chair of MMB.
The B.C. event will be hosted by Coleen Christie, a former CTV news anchor. It will include a formal GMID Proclamation from the Mayor of the City of Vancouver, keynote speaker Dee Byrnes of the Disney Institute, as well as “live” feeds and social media between other participating Canadian Cities.
