FORT MCMURRAY, ALTA. — Quality Hotel and Conference Centre hosted its re-opening celebration Sept. 8 and honoured the first responders who battled Alberta’s worst wildfire.

The event celebrated the re-opening of the hotel after smoke damaged the building’s interior. The evening included a donation presentation from SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts to the many brave men and women who fought the fire.
During the evacuation, SilverBirch properties in Edmonton accommodated Quality Hotel employees and their families as well as displaced Fort McMurray citizens.
In addition, SilverBirch hotels across the country raised more than $71,000 through the Friends in Need campaign. Between June 18 and 25, each hotel designated $5 from every room night booked, with the proceeds going to Local 2494 Fort McMurray Fire Fighters Relief Fund.
Quality Hotel and Conference Centre also be introduced its new leadership team, general manager Jayakrishna (JK) Tiramula and executive chef Christina Bowie.
Present at the reopening were Steve Giblin, president & CEO, SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts; Nick Waddington, president, Local 2494, Fort McMurray Fire Fighters Association; The Honour Guard of the Fort McMurray Fire Department; Paul Spring Local HERO Foundation; and Tany Yao, MLA for Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo.
