Group Germain Hotels has announced plans for a $20 million renovation of its Le Germain property in downtown Montréal. The Mansfield Street hotel will close in October and reopen in May 2019.
“This major transformation will allow Le Germain Hotel Montréal to enhance the experience of our guests, in addition to allowing us to remain competitive in the face of the tremendous growth we are currently witnessing in the hotel industry n Montreal,” said Christiane Germain, co-founder and co-president, Group Germain Hotels. “We are pleased to be investing in this property, which was, at the time of its opening in 1999, the first boutique hotel in Montréal.”
Architecture firm Lemaymichaud Design Architecture is overseeing the project, which will include work to both the exterior of the building and the hotel’s interior. The new version of Le Germain Hotel Montréal will feature:
- a rejuvenated facade with outside marquee;
- completely refurbished lobby, restaurant and bar;
- a ’70s-inspired revitalization of guestrooms that pays tribute to the building’s opening in 1967;
- the addition of new meeting rooms;
- and moving the fitness centre to a higher floor to give guests a view of the city while they workout.
Yves Lalumière, Tourisme Montréal’s president and CEO, applauded Group Germain Hotels as a leader in Quebec’s hospitality industry and for its commitment to offering tourists an unforgettable experience. “This major renovation project is excellent news. Not only does it improve downtown Montreal’s tourist product, it also enhances the quality of the hospitality extended to visitors,” he said.
“Le Germain Hotels no longer need presentation, they are a Quebec and Canadian pride,” said Mario Bédard, vice-president of Real Estate Investments at Industrial Alliance. “It is an honour to count them among our neighbours and this rejuvenation will certainly contribute to the prestige of Mansfield Street on which we are also located. The presence of Le Germain Hotel brings an important value to the district and we support them in this exciting project.”
