One of the most recognized international events – San Diego’s Comic Convention (Comic-Con) – recently announced it would require all attendees, exhibitors, guests, staff, press, volunteers, and cosplayers to wear masks throughout the show as well as provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status to attend.
The event is slated for July 21-24, 2022, and is expected to be back at pre-pandemic capacity for the first time. The convention normally draws more than 150,000 people each year.
“In an effort to create a gathering that accommodates our stakeholders safely, in addition to following current healthcare and governmental guidelines, everyone attending Comic-Con will be required to wear an approved face covering regardless of vaccination status,” the website’s FAQ reads. “In addition to wearing an approved face covering, you will be required to provide verification of full COVID-19 vaccination status or proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours. SDCC reserves the right to modify requirements or limits for attending or participating in activities.”
Organizers say these policies will apply to everyone from attendees, to press, and even celebrities.
This announcement came as a surprise to most, as many large events and gatherings in the state of California no longer have restrictions in place.
