Le Massif, Charlevoix, Québec
Charlevoix, Quebec will be home to Canada’s first Club Med resort.
Daniel Gauthier, chairman of the Board of Directors of Groupe Le Massif and Xavier Mufraggi, president and CEO, Club Med North America, announced last week that a 300-room property will be built at Le Massif, Charlevoix’s renowned ski region. It is slated to open in 2020.
Gathier said that the project will position Le Massif as one of the world’s greatest destinations. “Club Med is a world-recognized symbol, promoting an active lifestyle, family and well-being. With shared values, the partnership between Club Med and Massif, Charlevoix, is one of authenticity,” he explained.
Mufraggi said it was an honour and privilege to help create international awareness of a spectacular part of Canada. “Club Med is the world leader in all-inclusive mountain hotels and resorts. With more than 20 sites already established in France, Italy, Switzerland, Japan and China counting for more than 6,000 rooms, we’re excited to add Canada—and specifically Quebec—to the list.,” he commented. “Each season will reveal the wonders of this natural site, offering an international clientele a place of beauty to discover. Also, this project serves as a strategic symbol of rapid growth around the world for Club Med, with fifteen openings taking place through 2019, representing one to two mountain resort openings per year.”
The project represents a $120 million investment, and is expected to create 325 direct jobs and 400 indirect jobs. It will also benefit several major players in the regions of Québec City and Charlevoix, including the Québec City Jean Lesage Airport, which is forecasting a six per cent increase in flights directly connected to the project.
Partners in the project include:
- Government of Canada;
- Governement of Québec;
- Guy Laliberté and Lune Rouge;
- Investissement Québec ;
- Pierre Thabet, president of Boa Franc;
- and Groupe Germain.
It is also supported by Desjardins and the National Bank of Canada.
