CanSPEP, the Canadian Society of Professional Event Planners, has taken over ownership and operation of the Meetings Industry Euchre Tournament (MIET), a Toronto-based annual event that was created to raise funds for cancer research through the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (PMCF).
CanSPEP and MIET have signed a memorandum of understanding that supports the integrity of the event and ensures that proceeds will continue to go to efforts to find a cure to cancer. The seventh edition of MIET will be held April 26, 2018 at Beanfield Centre, Exhibition Place.
BBW International vice-president Sheila Wong, the founder of the event and its chair, says that CanSPEP taking over MIET is a win for the event’s partners. “By affiliating with a recognized industry association, sponsors and contributors will get in front of their target audience, while supporting a cause that will save lives,” she explains.
Patricia Pearson of CanPlan and president of CanSPEP adds: “On behalf of the board and the membership of CanSPEP, we are thrilled to host this inclusive industry event. Our Past Presidents’ Council was searching for a marquee charity to support and fate played its hand. We trust our industry will continue to support MIET as it has in the past six years and we look forward to working with our partners and colleagues to support cancer research.”
The Meetings Industry Euchre Tournament is now open to all members of the meetings industry at the CanSPEP member rate with an option for friends and family to attend as a non-member. Beanfield Centre is returning as the venue sponsor. MIET thanks and recognizes Arlene Campbell, general manager and Laura Purdy, director of sales and marketing of Beanfield Centre, whose support was instrumental in bringing MIET into existence and making it an ongoing success.
The event, which has raised nearly $100,000 for cancer research, includes a casual dinner buffet, draws, silent auction, beginner euchre lessons and more. This year, EventMobi is sponsoring a trivia game featuring sponsors and contributors on its versatile event app. The trivia game will take place prior to the start of the tournament.
A new sponsor prospectus for the event will be available soon.
