Group Germain Hotels has appointed Jane Kingston general manager of Alt Hotel St. John’s, its second property in Atlantic Canada.
“We are pleased to have Jane take the helm of the new Alt Hotel in St. John’s,” says Christiane Germain, co-president, Group Germain Hotels. “With her strong hospitality know-how, sense of customer service and congenial personality, we’re confident Jane will successfully deliver an outstanding guest experience and lead a positive impact on the local community.”
Originally from Ireland, Kingston brings two decades of hospitality experience to the Alt Hotel team. She holds higher diplomas from both CERT IRELAND and Dublin City University and has worked in almost every area of hotel operations and management both in Europe and St. John’s, where she was general manager of a local hotel.
“The first time I visited an Alt Hotel I simply fell in love with it—the friendly staff and the approach of how they serviced guests combined with the unique design made me certain that it was a place I would love to be” says Kingston. “I’m thrilled to have opportunity to lead the Alt Hotel team in St. John’s and provide guests with an exceptional experience as they visit one of Canada’s most beautiful cities.”
Jane has lived in St. John’s with her husband for nine years. Together they have a two-year-old daughter.
The property is scheduled to open in the upcoming months. It’s built on the grounds of the circa-1800’s Marshall Brothers cellar, the only remaining marker of the former Marshall Brothers store that was in operation in the mid-1920s. The outline of the cellar footprint has been incorporated into the hotel’s exterior landscaping and paving. A feature wall in the hotel lobby will display a montage of tactile materials excavated from the cellar, as well as historical photographs and descriptive text.
Designed by architects LEMAY MICHAUD, the hotel will feature 4,000 square feet of meeting space, a 2,500 square-foot area for a restaurant and patio, and a fitness centre.
