OTTAWA — Group Germain Hotels and the Ottawa International Airport Authority have announced the construction of the Alt Hotel Ottawa Airport, an investment of $40 million. The property will offer 180 guestrooms on eight floors, and on the top floor, will feature 3,000 square feet of meeting space and a restaurant. An indoor skywalk will connect the hotel to the airport terminal.
Construction is expected to start in the third quarter, “pending city approval,” according to a spokesperson, with the hotel scheduled to open in late 2020.
The Ottawa Airport hotel will be Group Germain’s third property in the Capital Region, the company’s third Canadian airport property, and the 20th hotel in their portfolio.
“After more than a year of due diligence, we found the ideal site and partner to develop a YOW (Ottawa Airport) terminal-connected hotel,” said Mark Laroche, president and CEO of the Ottawa International Airport Authority.
With a design by Montreal-based LemayMichaud Architecture Design, the property that will feature the brand’s signature elements, including ergonomic workstations, lobbies designed for guests to socialize, relax or hold impromptu meetings, and fitness rooms accessible 24 hours a day. In addition, the hotel will offer free high-speed WiFi and Chromecast streaming media players.
